Chacchoben Mayan Ruins in Mexico

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins in Mexico

In the heart of the Yucatan, one can find the Chacchoben Mayan ruins. The archeological site is actually very close to Cancun. At just 110 miles south of Tulum, which is about an hour from Cancun, it’s only a few hours away. The Chacchoben Mayan ruins in Mexico are actually named “The place of the Red Corn” in Mayan after the central village that surrounded the ancient structures. It is estimated that the Chacchoben Mayan ruins are approximately from the year 700 AD.

In 2002, the Chacchoben Mayan ruins were opened to the public by the Mexican governing body on Archeology (INAH). The excavation and restoration was done mainly in the 90′s, but this was long after the Chacchoben Mayan ruins were discovered by an archeologist from the US, Dr. Peter Harrison, in the 70′s. The initial discovery of the site was made by Harrison after he flew over the typically “flat” Yucatan terrain in a helicopter and discovered several large hills at Chacchoben.

To date, three Mayan pyramids have been excavated at Chacchoben, but several more await there revelation. Some unique features of the Chacchoben Mayan ruin site in Mexico is the red pigmentation originally painted on the structures. Mexican archeologist have painstakingly preserved much of the “redness” of the pyramids and other structures. There is also an impressive Mayan “Stela” (large stone slab) at the base of the main pyramid at Chacchoben with a hieroglyphic inscription.

For anyone thinking of visiting Cancun or the Costa Maya, the Chacchoben Mayan ruins are a must-see. They are some of the most impressive and widely-visited in Mexico. We offer unique getaways online like a Mayan ruins and snorkeling package that can be tailored to accommodate your planned stay in Cancun. Be sure to call us at 1-800-401-7021 for more information.

Little Effect on Cancun Travel by Mexicana Airline

Cancun Travel by Mexicana Airlines

When Mexicana Airlines shut down operations once and for all this last August, two things were speculated: 1) Travel to Cancun would be temporarily affected; 2) Another airline would fill the void. It turns out that the speculations were only half-right.

According to the DGAC in Mexico, very little has been affected in terms of Cancun travel by Mexicana Airlines. As a matter of fact, Airports Council International recently reported a 10% jump in international travel with Cancun leading in the Latin American/Caribbean region with an overall 11.7% increase in travel.

In the end, it seems that Aeromexico really came out on top with the demise of Mexicana Airlines. The DGAC in Mexico reported a 15% market increase for Aeromexico combined with Aeromexico Connect from June to October. Other big winners include Virgin America who will be the newest US carrier servicing Cancun. Flights to Cancun on Virgin America begin in 2011.

Look for good Cancun flight deals soon and catch a plane with Aeromexico or Virgin America down to Mexico soon. Stay at our Ocean Spa Cancun all inclusive hotel and take advantage of our low season specials now. For just $498, you can have book an 8 days and 7 nights getaway in Cancun. Playboy Club in Cancun Opens

Playboy Club

Courtsey of VegasBuzz

Just this last Saturday, December 04, 2010, Playboy Enterprises Inc. opened one more of its trademark Playboy Clubs in Cancun, Mexico. The Playboy Club Cancun has been in the works for more than a year. Along with a Mexican firms, Playboy developed the 12,000-square-foot club that includes a restaurant, a sports lounge, and full casino.

The Playboy Club in Cancun belongs to an exclusive circle, as it is only one of three Playboy Clubs worldwide; the other two being in Las Vegas and Macau. However, a fourth is set to open in London in 2011 and plans for a fifth Playboy Club in Miami is in the works.

Playboy hopes that the revival of its clubs reaches a comparable apex to that the franchise had in the 70′s and 80′s when there were 30 Playboy Clubs worldwide. Playboy Enterprises Inc. is attempting to supplement revenue from the print magazine as media continues to struggle in the digital era.

The opening of the Cancun Playboy Club has already improved the value of Playboy stock on the trading market and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner seems very pleased about the new endeavor telling an online publication recently, “I am pleased to bring the Playboy Club to Mexico…”

Be sure to visit the Playboy Club in Cancun soon by booking yourself an 8 day, 7 night stay at one of our premiere hotels just down the street for only $598. Call 1-800-401-7021 for more information on the best Cancun vacation packages of this week.

Cozumel Ironman Triathlon

With the conclusion of the 2010 Ironman Triathlon in Cozumel, the results are in, and there are some major surprises such as a Men’s course record by American Andy Potts. As part of the final leg of the North American Ironman event for 2010, Cozumel hosted more than 2,300 athletes from over 50 different countries. The course is known for being easily traversed due to its low elevation and few hills. But it is also known for having strong winds that can make the biking portion especially difficult.

In the swimming portion of the 2010 Ironman Triathlon in Cozumel, Andy Potts of the US held the best time at 45 minutes and 17 seconds for the 2.4 mile leg. Oscar Galindez held the best time for the biking portion of the triathlon with a time of 4 hours, 27 seconds and 46 seconds. Finally, the 26.2 mile run was also lead by Andy Potts, who completed the course in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 36 seconds. Overall, Potts set a new course record for the 2010 Ironman Triathlon in Cozumel with a complete time of 8 hours, 16 minutes and 14 seconds.

In the women’s competition, Yvonne van Vlerken of the Netherlands won the 2010 Ironman Triathlon in Cozumel with an overall time of 9 hours, 7 minutes and 25 seconds. Dr. Amanda Stevens won the swimming portion with a time of 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Tyler Stewart edged Yvonne van Vlerken to win the bike race in 4 hours, 47 minutes and 24 seconds. And Yvonne van Vlerken took first place in the 26.2 mile run, as she completed the leg in 3 hours, 13 minutes and 56 seconds.

Cuban Cruises from Mexico Resume

Cuban Cruises from Mexico

After almost three years, Cuban Cruises from Mexico have resumed. Port of Havana is now open to the Gemini ship, which is owned and operated by the Spanish Happy Cruises company. The last ship to make the trip regularly was the Spanish company, Pullmantur, which was suspended after its Cuban cruise fleet from Mexico was acquired by the US owned company Royal Caribbean.

The Gemini ship leaves from Mexico and has ports of call in Cozumel and Cancun before it continues to Cuba and docks in Havana. One of the first voyages carried 220 passengers from 11 countries, but mostly from Spain. However, full capacity for the ship is 800 passengers. Cubatur, the Cuban tourism company that works in conjunction with Spanish Happy Cruises expects to add British and Russian cruises regularly to Havana very soon.

According to the Cuban Tourism Ministry, if the US was to lift the 50-year-old embargo that prevents US citizens from traveling freely to the island-nation, it estimates 1,000 cruise ships a year would bring more than 1.2 million US tourists to Cuba.

If you’re thinking of taking a cruise to Cuba and are looking for Cancun extended vacation packages that will allow you to do so, then Best Cancun Packages can definitely help. Right now, we’re offering 8 days and 7 nights in one of our exclusive Cancun resorts for just $598.
